Beyond the Stereotypes

February marks the official launch of our Beyond the Stereotypes event series. This series will include author visits and events featuring people living with visible and invisible disabilities. The hope is that by  exposing learners to “own voices” resources they will grow in their understanding of disabilities and their empathy toward others.

Events in this Series

Tickets by Donation

We want these events to reach as many people as possible. To that end, all of the events in the Beyond the Stereotypes series will be offered by donation with four rates to choose from.  You are invited to select a rate that is possible for you.  As a non-profit organization, we strive to make our resources affordable and accessible to everyone. Your generous donation will allow us to continue offering affordable programs and resources that are making a difference in the lives of children around the world! You can read more about our Equitable Pricing Model here.

'Own Voices' Picture Books

Here is a selection of picture books with disabled characters written by ‘own voices’ authors. This means the authors have personal, lived experience with the disabilities featured in their books giving an authentic feel and moving readers beyond the stereotypes associated with disabilities.
