Join us for a special Pink Shirt Day author visit with award-winning Indigenous author, Monique Gray Smith!
During this 45-minute event, Monique will read her books You Hold Me Up and When We are Kind, and lead us in a brief child-friendly discussion on the message of Pink Shirt Day. About the Author
Monique Gray Smith is an award-winning, best-selling Canadian author. Monique is Cree and Scottish. She is well known for her storytelling, spirit of generosity, and focus on resilience.
In 2022, Monique adapted Robin Wall Kimmerer’s New York Times Bestselling book, Braiding Sweetgrass for a new generation of readers. Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults was released in November 2023.
Monique has 9 books ranging for readers across the lifespan. Children’s books include My Heart Fills with Happiness, You Hold Me Up, When We Are Kind, Lucy and Lola and I Hope.
Monique’s books are used to share wisdom, knowledge, hope, and the important teaching that love is medicine.

You Hold Me Up
This vibrant picture book, beautifully illustrated by Danielle Daniel, encourages children to show love and support for each other and to consider each other’s well-being in their everyday actions.
When We Are Kind
Beautifully illustrated by Nicole Neidhardt, When We Are Kind celebrates simple acts of everyday kindness and encourages children to explore how they feel when they initiate and receive acts of kindness.
