Remembrance Day Resources for Kids

Take Time to Remember

Every year on November 11th, Canadians pause for a moment of silence to honour and remember those who have served and continue to serve Canada during times of war, conflict, and peace. We have put together a collection of resources to help students learn more about why we observe Remembrance Day each year.

Free Resource Package

This resource package is more than 30 pages of activities to prepare your learners for Remembrance Day. It includes colouring pages, reflection sheets,  letters to veterans, poetry, and more!  We have also included blank templates that can be used with any question or writing prompt.

Virtual Classroom

Our Remembrance Day Virtual Classroom is filled with child-friendly learning resources for kids to explore as they learn more about why we observe Remembrance Day.

The Virtual Classroom includes informational videos, read aloud books, directed drawings, and printable resources. There are even links to Virtual Remembrance Day Ceremonies for families to participate in at home.

Recite In Flanders Fields

Make a global impact with your voice by narrating In Flanders Fields on Simbi! Check out this video that was created using narrations from our Orange Shirt Day event with author Courtney Defriend.

Simbi’s unique Read for Good platform combines reading with giving back to the world. Simbi motivates kids to read books aloud, improving their reading skills, while helping 50,000 other kids around the world learn to read.

Veteran's Affairs Resources

Veteran’s Affairs has created a variety of classroom resources to help prepare students for Remembrance Day.  We have linked two of these publications in the Virtual Classroom.

Take Time to Remember is an activity booklet for young children that introduces concepts of remembrance in an accessible and fun manner.  Tales of Animals at War is an annual publication created by the government of Canada for kids ages 5-11. Teacher’s Guides are available for both of these items.

Children's Books

One of the best ways to approach topics like Remembrance Day is through picture books. Here are a few of our favourites. Some of these books are on the shelves in the Virtual Classroom leading to read aloud videos.
