Resources for National Indigenous History Month

It's Indigenous History Month!

June is National Indigenous History Month. It’s a month-long celebration dedicated to recognizing the extraordinary history, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people across Canada.

For the past two years, we have been on a journey toward Truth and Reconciliation. We have had the privilege of meeting incredible indigenous authors, including Nicola I. Campbell, Leona Prince, and David A. Robertson; and we’ve learned so much about Coast Salish culture through our Pow Wow Dance Workshops and Coast Salish Art Classes.

Celebrate with us by exploring our free Virtual Classroom,  joining our live Coast Salish Art class, or enjoying one of the many on-demand events from our Indigenous Voices series.

Free Virtual Classroom

Our free Indigenous History virtual classroom is filled with informational videos, activities, and a whole library of read-aloud books by indigenous authors for students to explore at home or in the classroom.

Coast Salish Art Class - Live on June 15

Join us for our last Coast Salish Art class of the year! This class will include a traditional story, drawing practice of the basic Coast Salish shapes, and a guided drawing of a Douglas Fir tree.  Join us live on Thursday, June 15th at 11am PT or catch the recording at a time that works for you!

Indigenous Voices - Events on Demand

All of these events are now available for you to enjoy on-demand along with their companion Resource Packages filled with lessons and activities. Click here to see all Indigenous Voices events.

Picture Books by Indigenous Authors

Below is a selection of picture books featuring written or illustrated by Canadian indigenous authors. All of these books are also featured as read aloud videos in the Indigenous History Month virtual classroom and many of them are written by authors we have had the privilege of meeting!
